Josiah Koppanyi - Osbourne Village [2021]
A bustling street-level snapshot of one of Winnipeg's most beloved neighborhoods, Osborne Village captures the district's eclectic charm in Koppanyi's signature whimsical style. A gothic church spire and clock tower anchor a skyline of candy-colored heritage buildings — teal, red brick, and butter yellow — while a VW van, street musicians, dancers, a hot dog cart, and dozens of small figures fill the square below with everyday life.
Self-taught and Winnipeg-born, Koppanyi builds his scenes intuitively, favoring color and pattern over strict scale, and the effect here is a neighborhood that feels alive and a little magical — kites and biplanes drifting overhead, cherry blossoms in bloom, and the easy, unhurried energy of a summer afternoon on Osborne Street.
